A break-even conference start for Nevada women’s tennis
One win, one loss.
On March 26 and 27, Nevada women’s tennis faced Air Force and New Mexico for their first two conference matches of the season.
First came the loss. Air Force beat Nevada 4–0.
Anastasia Luneva and Milka Genkova, number one doubles, and Cristina Moll Alles and Gabriella Charalampidi, number three doubles, both lost 2–6 against their opponents. The number two doubles, Mariana Campino and Selina Turulja, lost in the first set 2–5 and had an unfinished second set.
There were three more unfinished matches for singles: Luneva, Campino, Charalampidi. Genkova lost in two sets against Sydney Fitch, 2–6 and 1–6. Moll Alles tied her number four opponent 6–6 in set one, but lost 1–6 in set two. Turulja lost 1–6 and 0–6 against Hailey Stelse.
Next was a Nevada win against New Mexico, 4–2.
Two doubles matches were won for Nevada. Luneva and Genkova lost 2–6, but the number one and number three Nevada doubles won. Campino and Turulja won 6–1 and Moll Alles and Charalampidi won in a closer match 6–4.
The first singles win for Nevada was Charalampidi. She beat Sofia Taborga 6–4 and 6–3. Next was number three Campino. Her match went into three sets: 6–1, 1–6 and 6–2. Luneva had a two set match against number two Hsuan Huang. She beat Huang 7–6 and 6–2. Genkova and Turulja were unable to beat their opponents and Moll Alles had an unfinished match.
The women are now 1–1 in conference play and 7–4 overall. Their next matches will be at home on April 1 against Boise State, and April 3 against Utah State.
