Nevada volleyball loses to instate rival UNLV
Nevada women’s volleyball lost to the University of Nevada, Las Vegas at home on Sept. 25. This is the second consecutive loss for the Wolf Pack.
UNLV is the Wolf Pack’s in-state rival, and came to Reno ready for battle. UNLV took the win, 3–0.
Nevada was not able to get a lead in the first set. Senior outside hitter Milica Tasic had two back-to-back kills once she was subbed in for UNLV. Nevada was down by seven points for a good portion of the set. Sophomore outside hitter Reka Monteleone helped Nevada out by getting four kills in the set. UNLV senior middle blocker Kate Brennan and sophomore setter Arien Fafard each had five point long service runs aided in the teams win. UNLV took the win at 25–16.
The second set was closer in score.
Although Nevada didn’t have a lead in this set either, they were able to tie 3–3 and stay within a three-point range for most of the set. Senior right side hitter Kyla Waiters had four strong kills for Nevada. Tasic also had four kills and two blocks to carry UNLV. UNLV won 25–20.
UNLV ran a fast third set. They did not let Nevada hit double digits in score until it was 21–10. With a total of 13 points for Nevada, three came from UNLV service errors, five from UNLV attack errors, two kills by freshman opposite hitter Sia Liilii, two kills by Waiters and one kill from red-shirt junior middle blocker Savanna Maker. Nevada was challenged by UNLV’s blockers who had a total of seven in the set. UNLV finished the game, winning the third set 25–13.
This game put Nevada at 0–2 for conference play and UNLV at 1–1. The two teams will face off again Nov. 20.
The next match for the Wolf Pack will be at Utah State at 7 p.m. on Sept. 30.
