The chosen one: Tierney Wolfgram competes in NCAA National Cross Country Championships
Tierney Wolfgram was the only member from the whole state of Nevada to have a good enough record to compete in the NCAA National Cross Country Championships.
Wolfgram placed one hundred-seventeenth out of 255 runners. Her finishing time for the 6k was 20:35.6. In first place was Whittni Orton from BYU with a time of 19:25.3.
It was history in the making with Wolfgram qualifying for this event. It has been more than 40 years since a Nevada runner has qualified, making her the second in the school’s history.
Wolfgram has had an outstanding sophomore year after not being able to compete her freshman year due to COVID-19.
Wolfgram was sent to every meet this season. She placed in the top 15 in all meets except for Nationals. To start off the season, Wolfgram placed first in the U of San Francisco Invite with a time of 20:47.9. She had two second place finishes: Santa Clara Bronco Invitational, 19:31.2, and NCAA Division I Mountain Region Cross Country Championships, 20:20.4. At the Mountain West XC Championships, Wolfgram finished ninth with a time of 19:58.6. Finally was a twelfth place finish at the Griak Invitational, where she ran a 21:13.2.
Nevada secured a strong runner and will look to see how Wolfgram improves throughout her career.
