After a second place finish in Las Vegas two weeks ago, Nevada women’s golf struggled in the third round at the Gunrock Invitational on Feb. 28 and March 1.

The Del Paso Country Club is a par 72, 6067 yard golf course in Sacramento, Calif.

In round one, all athletes but one finished over par. Leah John was the only Nevada golfer to finish below par at 70. Victoria Gailey was close to par, only being one over. Anitra Khoth and Danielle Ujimori both were three over and Raesa Sheikh was four over. Kaitlin Fleiner and Madeline Zunino were five over par. The women’s overall round one score was 293.

Nevada did better by ten points in the second round with a total of 283. Three golfers shot under par. John and Khoth were three under and Gailey was under one. Fleiner was over two, Zunino over four, Sheikh over six and Ujimori over seven.

Round three was difficult for Nevada. Their total score was a high 300. No other team shot a 300 or more in the tournament. Every athlete was over par. Gailey was over by one and Fleiner and Zunino were over by three. Khoth, John and Sheikh were over par by four strokes. Ujimori went over par by nine points.

Nevada ended up with a total of 876 points. This put them down to ninth place out of 11 teams. Next they will be in Ewa Beach, Hawaii for the Dr. Donnis Thompson Invitational on March 7 and 8.
